Final Blog: My first year in the university

The year 2009 was my first year in the university, so this is a year that I will remember forever. It was very special for me, because I finished the school last year. I didn’t know my new classmates, and the only thing I was thinking on vacations was the fact that it would be hard for me to make new friends. The first day I was so nervous! But, as you can see, I have survived. It wasn’t as hard as I thought, but the thing that was hard for sure was the academic aspect.

Make new friends wasn’t hard, but I was really worry about it. The thing that didn’t worry me at all, it resulted to be the hardest part of this year. I’m talking about the academic part.

The university it’s very different from the school. When I was there, it was a very small place. Besides, I was very friendly with my teachers, and they treat me like a daughter. I was so happy in the school, that it wasn’t hard for me to get very good marks. But the university is completely different. You have to study a lot, and very hard, if you want to get a 6. But believe when I say that a 5 can be the best mark ever.

The first semester I studied a lot. I came to the university the five days of the week and on the weekend I was always in my room studying. I really wanted to have good marks, but at the end of the semester I was happy just passing the subject. This semester I knew a little more about the things I have to do in order to not stressing me a lot and have good marks.

In conclusion, I have to say that in this year, my first year in the university, I did it quite well. I passed all the subjects that I took and I really studied and learned a lot! Besides, in this semester, I’m not going to give any exam. That shows that in this year I learned a lot of things that would be very useful for the next years that I’m going to spend in this university that it has won a place in my heart. So, if the next year it’s you first year in the university, don’t worry about it, because at the end you will do it great!

Blog 7: Next elections

Hello everyone! In today’s blog I’m going to talk about an issue that takes place in one more month: presidential elections.

I think that the presidential elections are a very important issue because it is the election of the person that will govern the country for the next 4 years and it is the possibility to choose the person that could improve the country and the social problems that the Chilean society has.
In spite of that, I’m not going to vote. I am conscious that it is a very important decision and because of that I think that I should vote when the candidate really worth it.

I think that the candidates, all of them, need to be more conscious about the problems that our society has. Maybe it’s just me, but I have the impression that they have in their minds something like an ‘utopian society’ and forget the important problems that must be improve.

I would not like to participate in politics in the future, but, as a politician, I would like to ‘educate’ the people a little bit more. For example, I was in the bus the other day and an old lady just launched an ice pack out of the window. I was so furious about that, I don’t know why people just left their garbage in everywhere. I hope that someday people learn something about ‘taking care of the place where you live’.

Well, I know that that is a little detail in comparison to all the problems we have. Hope that things get better soon!

Blog 6: The quirky world of "manspaces"

This is a Sam Martin’s talk. He talks about the “manspaces”, so the first thing you question to yourself is: What are the manspaces? Well, the manspaces are the spaces men create for themselves. Very simple, isn’t it? Sam says that he made his own ‘manspace’ with just 3,000 dollars and some recycled materials: It had everything he needed, it was quiet, there it was enough space and the most important thing: He had the control.

He did some research and found out that manspaces have a historic precedence. For example, Elvis had two or three manspaces. On the other hand, we can see that in the popular culture some fiction characters had their ‘manspace’ too: Superman had the Fortress of Solitude and Batman had the Batcave.

After realize that, Sam decided to do a journey and see what guys were creating for themselves now. He found over 50 spaces that were unexpected and surprising. They were very personalized and had a lot of work into them. Sam was very impressed, why all this manspaces were like that? This is the answer: the guys that he met were all very passionate about their professions, so they created that spaces to reflect what they love to do, and who they were.

I think that Sam’s talk was very interesting, but I think he missed one detail: men are not the only ones that create spaces for themselves, women can (and absolutely they do) create their own spaces, that we should call now ‘womanspaces’.
