Final Blog: My first year in the university

The year 2009 was my first year in the university, so this is a year that I will remember forever. It was very special for me, because I finished the school last year. I didn’t know my new classmates, and the only thing I was thinking on vacations was the fact that it would be hard for me to make new friends. The first day I was so nervous! But, as you can see, I have survived. It wasn’t as hard as I thought, but the thing that was hard for sure was the academic aspect.

Make new friends wasn’t hard, but I was really worry about it. The thing that didn’t worry me at all, it resulted to be the hardest part of this year. I’m talking about the academic part.

The university it’s very different from the school. When I was there, it was a very small place. Besides, I was very friendly with my teachers, and they treat me like a daughter. I was so happy in the school, that it wasn’t hard for me to get very good marks. But the university is completely different. You have to study a lot, and very hard, if you want to get a 6. But believe when I say that a 5 can be the best mark ever.

The first semester I studied a lot. I came to the university the five days of the week and on the weekend I was always in my room studying. I really wanted to have good marks, but at the end of the semester I was happy just passing the subject. This semester I knew a little more about the things I have to do in order to not stressing me a lot and have good marks.

In conclusion, I have to say that in this year, my first year in the university, I did it quite well. I passed all the subjects that I took and I really studied and learned a lot! Besides, in this semester, I’m not going to give any exam. That shows that in this year I learned a lot of things that would be very useful for the next years that I’m going to spend in this university that it has won a place in my heart. So, if the next year it’s you first year in the university, don’t worry about it, because at the end you will do it great!

Blog 7: Next elections

Hello everyone! In today’s blog I’m going to talk about an issue that takes place in one more month: presidential elections.

I think that the presidential elections are a very important issue because it is the election of the person that will govern the country for the next 4 years and it is the possibility to choose the person that could improve the country and the social problems that the Chilean society has.
In spite of that, I’m not going to vote. I am conscious that it is a very important decision and because of that I think that I should vote when the candidate really worth it.

I think that the candidates, all of them, need to be more conscious about the problems that our society has. Maybe it’s just me, but I have the impression that they have in their minds something like an ‘utopian society’ and forget the important problems that must be improve.

I would not like to participate in politics in the future, but, as a politician, I would like to ‘educate’ the people a little bit more. For example, I was in the bus the other day and an old lady just launched an ice pack out of the window. I was so furious about that, I don’t know why people just left their garbage in everywhere. I hope that someday people learn something about ‘taking care of the place where you live’.

Well, I know that that is a little detail in comparison to all the problems we have. Hope that things get better soon!

Blog 6: The quirky world of "manspaces"

This is a Sam Martin’s talk. He talks about the “manspaces”, so the first thing you question to yourself is: What are the manspaces? Well, the manspaces are the spaces men create for themselves. Very simple, isn’t it? Sam says that he made his own ‘manspace’ with just 3,000 dollars and some recycled materials: It had everything he needed, it was quiet, there it was enough space and the most important thing: He had the control.

He did some research and found out that manspaces have a historic precedence. For example, Elvis had two or three manspaces. On the other hand, we can see that in the popular culture some fiction characters had their ‘manspace’ too: Superman had the Fortress of Solitude and Batman had the Batcave.

After realize that, Sam decided to do a journey and see what guys were creating for themselves now. He found over 50 spaces that were unexpected and surprising. They were very personalized and had a lot of work into them. Sam was very impressed, why all this manspaces were like that? This is the answer: the guys that he met were all very passionate about their professions, so they created that spaces to reflect what they love to do, and who they were.

I think that Sam’s talk was very interesting, but I think he missed one detail: men are not the only ones that create spaces for themselves, women can (and absolutely they do) create their own spaces, that we should call now ‘womanspaces’.

Blog 5: Correct a blog.

My faculty (this is the correction)

My faculty is Social Sciences and my career is Psychology. This is a good faculty, because it has good teachers that are dedicated in their areas. On the other hand, are things that should improve, for example, the infrastructure and the technologies. The first step to solve this situation is to improve the organization and the distribution of resources.Another problem I have seen is that the careers of psychology, anthropology, education and sociology has no communication between them. This is a problem because these careers correspond to different fields of science so they should be interconnected. This is demonstrated first in the arrangement of classrooms, for example, in the building of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the first level is for Education, the second for anthropology, the third level for sociology and the fourth level for psychology. This situation prevents that we talk between us in academic terms, which is extremely important because as I said earlier, all these careers unfold in a scientific setting. This would produce a better learning, more comprehensive. For that, I think it is important to propose in the regular channels of the faculty, to give primary emphasis to a restructure in the arrangement of the classrooms. Other deficiencies in the political governing of our faculty, is the lack of communication with other universities. We should have more conventions, programs, courses, etc., in order to establish a connection, permanent and dynamic, with careers of other establishments, privates or states, to take advantage and learn the different approaches that can give us the same career. In conclusion, I think our faculty needs more unity and communication.
Finally, as my classmates and I commented, this faculty as the other faculties of this campus has many problems, especially in infrastructure and resources.

Hello everyone! How are you today? Are you OK? I hope so!

In today’s blog I have to make the correction of one of my classmates’ blogs.

In the blog that I choose I found little mistakes, and they were just a few ones. In general I think that the topic is very well developed, and besides, it proposes a very interesting idea.

Let’s start!

The first thing that I noticed was the fact that there were missed a lot of capitals. Most of the people may think that this is not an important thing, but when you are writing for an evaluation, or if you have to write a paper, it’s very important to write in the correct way.

The other thing that I noticed was that there were some problems with the punctuation and the connection between the ideas. For example, when you’re going to give an example, the connector “for example” should be between two commas when it’s in the middle of the sentence. About the connection between the ideas, it is very important to manage some ‘key’ words that are very useful at the moment of redacting something, for example, “because”, “on the other hand”, “in order to”, “and”, etc.

Finally, I would like to say one more thing: when you’re writing in English, but is not your native language, it’s very important to be careful about some words in Spanish that can ‘escape’ when you are typing. In this case there were only one and small word: “y”, that is “and” in English.

So that’s all for today. Take care!

Blog 4: My faculty

Hello everyone! How are you today? Are you OK? I hope so! Are you happy? I hope so!
In today’s blog I am going to write about my faculty. I am studying psychology in the ‘Facultad de Ciencias Sociales’ of the Universidad de Chile. This faculty is located in Campus Juan Gómez Millas.

The current situation here is that we won the Bicentenary project. This project offers us to improve the infrastructure, build new buildings, and make our faculty a beautiful and lovely place to be.

On the other hand, there is a project that was already approved, that consist in the increase of quotas. This will mean that the next year we would be 30 students more than this year studying psychology. But, in order to deal with this situation, the first thing we need to do is to improve our faculty: the classrooms are too small for the students that we already are (in some classes we are like sardines in the classroom), 30 students more would we hell!

The Bicentenary project that we won it seems to be the solution to this problem. But it is a pity that the project has not started yet. We are in October now, this year is ending, so, when will the constructions start?

If in the next year we don’t have a new building, I don’t think we would be able to receive the new students, because as I mentioned before, they would be a lot more. Really, a lot!

In this moment I don’t think my faculty is ready, first we must improve a lot of things, and then! Just then, we could think on increase the quotas.

Blog 3: A country I'd like to visit.

Hello everyone! How are you today? Are you OK? I hope so!

In today's blog I'm going to write about a country I'd like to visit. If you ask me, the country that I would love to visit would be Korea.

Why? Well, I'm very interesting in Korean culture. Right now I'm learning Korean because I really hope to travel there someday. I love Korean music, specially 'k-pop' or Korean pop, so the first thing I would do there would be to go to a concert of one of my many favorite artists... that would be a dream come true.

Besides, I think Korean food it's really good. I've already ate some of it here in Chile, but it would be great if I could eat it in its native country.

On the other hand, it would be really nice if I could talk Korean with a Korean… to have a conversation, hope an interesting one, in order to prove myself that I have really learned it. Can you imagine how it would be for me if a native Korean tells me that my Korean it's really good? That would be amazing!

I'd like to visit Korea one day. That would be the best experience in my life, ever.

Blog! Graphs' review

This graph shows us the percentage of frequency of feelings of forgiveness. We can see that the lower percentage corresponds to the people that never forgives and on the other hand we have that the 21% of the people forgives often, which is just a 4% more than the people that never forgives. In the middle of the graph we have the people that forgives sometimes, which percentage corresponds to the bigger one: 62%. So we can say as a resume that the people tends to be in the middle: the lower percentages are in the extremes.

This graph shows us the percentage of frequency of feelings of anger. We can see that the main percentage is in the middle: the 67% of the people says that they have feelings of anger just sometimes. Besides, we can see that the lower percentages are in the extremes options: often and never. The 27% of the people says that they never feel anger, while just a 6% of the people, which corresponds to the lower percentage, says that they often feel anger. In this graph occurs the same situation: the people tends to be in the middle and the lower percentages are in the extremes, and both graphs are about frequency of feelings.
